MD Anderson was building a new floor on top of their existing building which would be a space for patients to enjoy time with their families in a germ free and beautiful environment. MD Anderson and HKS selected Jockimo to develop a wall of glass that separated their executive board room from the rest of the space. A glass waterfall was originally desired but maintenance and contaminants/germ concerns were issues. The solution was Jockimo's ColorFuse™ ThickGlass™.
We created blue ColorFuse™ panels with large bubbles - as big as the palm of your hand. The colors within the panels give a feeling of movement and life to the panels. A gradation of color within the glass was requested so that the bottom half of the panel was darker and slowly gradated to a lighter color at the top. The glass is the edge lit from the top with LEDs.
Due to the fact that the environment had to be germ free our ThickGlass™ had to be laminated - which allowed us to provide a safe glass that met ASTM standards in a vertical application. The glass was all polished after laminating and then butt glazed together.
This is the first ever vertical installation of this type of product ever that we know of - especially on this scale. The panels are 10' tall!!
